During the demonstration of the Thermomix that I attended the demonstrator made a fruit sorbet in seconds! I thought at the time 'my KitchenAid food processor can do that!'. I have a ice cream maker as well but I hardly ever use it. That just seems like too much effort so I decided to try out the quick method with the food processor instead and it was fab!
All you need is chopped up frozen fruit - we always have lots on hand because we enjoy frappes in the summer.
Here is my first recipe:
1 qty of chopped frozen fruit
1 egg white
1 qty icing sugar (optional)
Use the big bowl (work bowl) of the food processor and the multipurpose blade.
Add frozen fruit and sugar and turn food processor on. Allow it to chop the fruit as fine as you think it will go - about 5 mins. With the motor running, add one egg white through the shute of the food pusher and process further until the sorbet looks all soft and foamy - like gelato.
Done!
I know the quantities are all very vague but the point is to use what you have to hand and make it to taste! I had pink grapefruit in the freezer so I needed a bit of sugar but I didn't use any for the mixed berry attempt. You can add yoghurt instead of egg white if you want to make a frozen yoghurt style dessert.
Now this all takes 5-10 mins. I think that's doable even if the fancy pants Thermomix can do it under a minute!
I hope you give it a try!
